Happy Father’s Day From Free-Flex® Pivots

As we celebrate all of the great fathers in this country, we would also like to reflect on the father of precision rotational motion: The Free-Flex® Pivot

1961 – In the year that saw the first human in space, the Bendix Corporation was approached to develop an alternative to rolling element bearings and other devices providing rotational support for limited angular rotation. Through the effort of a talented team of engineers led by Henry Troeger, the Free-Flex® Pivot was born.

As the brain-child of a group of ingenious engineers, the Free-Flex® Pivot quickly became a staple in the aerospace industry due to its ability to provide a frictionless, stiction free, infinite life mechanism. Over the next 60+ years, the Free-Flex® Pivot product line has grown to feature in multiple industries, including semiconductor, precision metrology, optics, medical equipment, food production, and even audio equipment.

While the Free-Flex® Pivot has changed hands over the years, it has never left its original home in Central New York. In 2004, the Riverhawk Company purchased the entire original product line from Goodrich. The purchase included all manufacturing equipment and documentation as well as several key personnel. Riverhawk Company’s ownership group and current team included many former employees of Bendix Corporation. In fact, one of Riverhawk Company’s founders’ father was instrumental in the development of the Free-Flex® Pivot product line!

As new technology continues to be implemented, engineers the world over continue to rely on the Free-Flex® Pivot.
